Swedish union IF Metall is restarting strike action at Tesla workshops in six Swedish locations from August 13, after failing to reach a collective agreement with Tesla’s Swedish company TM Sweden AB.
The Danish newspaper Arbejderen reports that the summer pause in the long-running conflict is over, and that mechanics at Swedish Tesla workshops are resuming their strike. The action is organized by IF Metall, the Swedish industrial workers’ union, and targets Tesla’s service operations in Sweden.
According to Dagens Arbete, the renewed action begins on August 13, 2026 and blocks all work at Tesla workshops in Malmö, Umeå, Uppsala, Upplands Väsby, Segeltorp and Huddinge. The same outlet reports that workers who were sent back to their jobs in the spring are now being called out again.
What the dispute is about
The conflict concerns whether TM Sweden AB, Tesla’s Swedish company, will sign a collective agreement covering its employees. As reported by the Norwegian trade union outlet Frifagbevegelse, the strike is being restarted because the parties have not reached an agreement despite lengthy negotiations.
Sveriges Radio states that the new blockade is a response to the Swedish Tesla company not wanting to sign a collective agreement. The broadcaster adds that the measure covers all work at the affected workshops, while employees who are off duty are not included.
