Statistics Denmark reported on August 24, 2026, that around four in ten employed people in Denmark have worked from home in recent weeks. The level has been stable since the beginning of 2024.
DR reports that the finding comes from the latest Labour Force Survey by Danmarks Statistik. The survey is carried out every quarter and is based on around 15,000 interviews.
According to the survey, just over 40 percent of employed people had worked from home within the four weeks before they were interviewed. That share has barely moved up or down since early 2024. Only a little more than 6 percent said they work from home frequently, while the rest do so occasionally.
The figures show large differences between occupations. Among people in management jobs, the share is 74 percent, and 68 percent of employees in jobs requiring knowledge at the highest level also work from home. By contrast, only 9 percent of those in manual work do so.
In sales and service jobs, 12 percent of employees do not spend all of their working time at the workplace. The survey also points to working hours as a factor. Home working is most common among employees with a working week of 37 hours or more.
A shift that dates back to before the pandemic
In 2019, the share of employed people with home working was below 30 percent. During the coronavirus years it rose above 35 percent in some periods, and it passed 40 percent only in the first quarter of 2021. It has stayed at that level for the past 10 quarters, and the increase since 2019 is about 13 percentage points, according to Danmarks Statistik.
Berlingske reported the same conclusion, including the breakdown by how often people work from home and by occupational group. A release from Danmarks Statistik adds that home working is most widespread in information and communication and in finance and insurance. The agency describes the level as stable for the past year and a half.
Employer organization Dansk Erhverv cited the Statistics Denmark figures in an analysis published in July 2026. According to that analysis, 40 percent of companies offer at most two days of home working per week. About one in ten offer full flexibility, the organization stated.
The publication follows the statistics agency’s own release calendar. Danmarks Statistik had scheduled the Labour Force Survey, including the table on employed people working from home, for 08:00 on August 24, 2026. The numbers are a routine quarterly update rather than a response to new legislation, and they describe patterns in Danish work culture across occupational groups.
