Matador scripts and costumes up for auction until Aug 24

Original props, costumes and a complete set of scripts from the Danish television series “Matador” have gone under the hammer at the auction house Bruun Rasmussen. Bidding in the online sale closes on August 24, 2026.

DR reports that a range of original items from the series has been placed on auction. The lots include costumes, Korsbæk newspapers and curtains from the living rooms of the Varnæs and Skjern families.

Bruun Rasmussen itself highlights a complete, original set of scripts as the centerpiece of the “Matador” collection. According to DR, the set is estimated at 80,000 to 100,000 kroner. The auction house states that the set brings buyers close to the lines and the scriptwriters’ work on the series, episode by episode.

Among the costumes is Ingeborg Skjern’s flowered dress, worn by Ghita Nørby in episode eight. Also for sale are Maude Varnæs’ beige blouse, worn by Malene Schwartz in episode 11, and Elisabeth Friis’ curry-colored blouse, worn by Helle Virkner in episode 21.

Peter Broe, the auction house’s specialist in memorabilia and collectibles, says interest in the series has not been lost, even though it is soon 50 years since “Matador” first ran on Danish screens. As stated by Broe, it is fantastic to again give collectors and fans the chance to acquire a small piece of a series that has long since become part of Danish cultural heritage.

Announced in a press release Monday

Ekstra Bladet reports that Bruun Rasmussen announced the sale in a press release on Monday morning. The outlet notes the same valuation of up to 100,000 kroner for the scripts, and writes that fans can now bid for the entire set.

The sale follows a series of earlier “Matador” auctions at the same house. The Copenhagen Post reported that 12 original costumes from the series, including outfits worn by Maude Varnæs and Ingeborg Skjern, were auctioned on December 8, 2025.

Earlier in 2026, bank director Hans Christian Varnæs’ suit from the series was also put up for sale. That auction was covered by Fyens Stiftstidende in February 2026. Bruun Rasmussen’s own communications note that three documents used as props in “Matador” were sold through an online auction in April 2021.

DR states that the current online auction is already underway and runs until August 24. Bidding takes place through Bruun Rasmussen’s online platform, where the “Matador” items are listed alongside the rest of the collection.
