A Hungarian court has remanded a 22-year-old Hungarian man in custody in a case involving a 15-year-old Danish girl who disappeared from Hedensted and was later found in Hungary. Danish police confirmed the arrest on Tuesday and are seeking his extradition.
Sydøstjyllands Politi said in a press release that a man has been arrested in Hungary in the case of the 15-year-old girl. The confirmation was reported on August 11, 2026, by Avisen Danmark, citing the news agency Ritzau.
According to that reporting, the girl left her home in Hedensted on a Tuesday last week. She was found in Hungary two days later, on Thursday. She had been the subject of a public search during the week.
As part of the investigation, Sydøstjyllands Politi asked the Hungarian authorities to arrest the man. Per the police press release, the arrest was carried out on the basis of a Danish-issued arrest warrant. The Danish police district has requested that he be extradited from Hungary to Denmark.
Police say inquiries continue
Vice Police Inspector Christian Skyt said the arrest is an important step in the investigation. He added that a number of circumstances in the case remain to be clarified, according to the press release. He also said the ongoing investigation prevents police from describing the specific investigative steps taken so far.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Hungarian court said a 22-year-old Hungarian man had been remanded in custody in the case. The court’s own press release states that the man was arrested on the basis of the Danish arrest warrant, as reported by Avisen Danmark and Ritzau.
