Former Conservative member of the Folketing and businessman Kai Dige Bach has died at the age of 90.
His death was reported on September 20 by DR. The broadcaster described him as a former politician for Det Konservative Folkeparti and an industrious businessman.
The death was confirmed by his son, John Gerhard Dige Bach, to Ekstra Bladet. According to the son, as quoted by the newspaper, his father died of old age on Saturday at 5 p.m. The son said his father had led a fine life.
Kai Dige Bach sat in the Folketing for Det Konservative Folkeparti for 11 years, from 1987 to 1998. For a period he served as deputy chair of the Business Committee, Erhvervsudvalget. Outside Christiansborg, he was widely known as an active entrepreneur.
A long business career
His commercial career began in 1958, when he started trading in fuel. The following year he completed his commercial examination at Niels Brock in Copenhagen, per DR. He later owned a gas station.
The businesses expanded into charter travel and household appliances. The appliance venture ran under the company name Snehvide. He was also active as a travel organizer.
Kai Dige Bach worked in the media sector as well. He published the magazines “Den Grimme Ælling” and “Idé-nyt”, according to DR. He also published the local newspaper Lokal-Posten, which covered Lyngby-Taarbæk, Søllerød and Bagsværd.
Alongside national politics, he was politically active in his home town of Herlev. He sat on the municipal council from 1966 to 1974. The last four of those years he served as deputy mayor.
Local roles in Herlev
He held several other positions in the town. Among them, he chaired Herlev Handelsforening and Herlev Bladet, DR reported.
In 2015 he opened what he called the flagship in Herlev. The site allows entrepreneurs to live there free of charge. The idea was for them to inspire one another to start their own companies.
In 2019 he established a charitable foundation, “Eva og Kai Dige Bachs lille fond”. The fund carried his name together with that of his wife, Eva.
The date of his funeral has not yet been set, Ekstra Bladet reported on September 20.
