A 22-year-old Hungarian man appeared at the Court in Horsens on Thursday morning, one day after being extradited to Denmark in the case of a 15-year-old girl from Hedensted.
The man entered the courtroom at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, according to Avisen Danmark, which is following the hearing in a live blog. He was handed over to Danish authorities on Wednesday, August 19.
The 22-year-old was arrested in Hungary at the request of Sydøstjyllands Politi. As reported by Avisen Danmark, the arrest was made on the basis of a European arrest warrant issued in Denmark. The custody hearing in Horsens is the first time he is presented before a Danish judge in the case.
The case concerns a 15-year-old girl who left her home in Hedensted on August 4, 2026. She was found in Hungary two days later, on August 6, according to Avisen Danmark.
What other outlets report
Ekstra Bladet reported that Sydøstjyllands Politi confirmed the extradition. Per the outlet, the man was detained at Copenhagen Airport at 12:50 and then taken to Horsens, where police would ask the court for pre-trial detention.
The Copenhagen Post also reported that the 22-year-old was arrested on arrival at Copenhagen Airport following the extradition. According to the same outlet, he is accused of depriving the 15-year-old Danish girl of her liberty.
Politiken reported that the man had earlier been remanded in custody in absentia in Horsens. As noted by Politiken, Hungarian authorities said he could be extradited if guarantees were given that any sentence could be served in Hungary.
BT reported that the hearing was scheduled for 10:00 at the Court in Horsens and that the man had previously been charged in absentia in Denmark. The reporting on his movements after arrival differs slightly, with Avisen Danmark describing the extradition and other outlets placing the arrest at Copenhagen Airport.
In a statement dated August 11, Sydøstjyllands Politi said a man had been arrested in Hungary as part of the investigation into the case of the 15-year-old girl. The police said the arrest was based on a Danish arrest warrant and that extradition to Denmark had been requested.
The immediate reason for Thursday’s hearing is the completed extradition. The Hungarian man was handed over on Wednesday, which allowed Danish police to bring him before the court the following day.
