Bus operator Herning Turist has entered court-supervised reconstruction, and Midttrafik says its city, local and regional routes continue to run as planned.
Public broadcaster DR reported on September 18 that the company has entered reconstruction. Herning Turist is one of the large suppliers of city buses and local and regional routes for Midttrafik. The buses keep running according to schedule.
Midttrafik announced the reconstruction in a press release on its website. The transport authority states that it will ensure operations continue until the routes are handed over to a new company.
Lars Berg of Midttrafik said in the release that the most important thing is that customers can still board the buses, regardless of which operator is behind them. Per the same statement, Midttrafik will work with the reconstructor to keep the affected routes running without inconvenience for passengers.
Søren Volder of the law firm Bech-Bruun has been appointed reconstructor for Herning Turist by the bankruptcy court, the skifteret. According to the press release, the reconstruction is meant to secure a sound framework around the operation of Midttrafik’s routes in particular.
What reconstruction means
Bech-Bruun writes on its website, in general terms about the procedure, that reconstruction aims to restore a company’s finances. The purpose is for the business to avoid bankruptcy and to be able to continue operating.
The company at the center of the case is Herning Turist ApS. As reported by DR, it operates routes in Ringkøbing-Skjern, Odder, Skanderborg, Herning and Horsens.
Midttrafik is the public transport authority for central Jutland, responsible for city buses and regional routes across the region. Herning Turist has been one of its contracted operators on several of those routes, according to the authority’s statement.
Neither Midttrafik nor the reconstructor has named the company that is to take over the routes. The press release states only that operations will continue until the handover takes place.
DR notes that passengers who use the routes regularly are not expected to see immediate changes. Midttrafik repeats in its release that continued service for customers is its main priority during the process.
