Two councillors in Ikast-Brande want a legal assessment of whether the owner of Ikast Golf Klub should be reported to the police. The municipal council decides Monday evening how many dispensations to grant the project.
The council in Ikast-Brande Kommune meets at 6:30 p.m. on September 7 to decide the case. DR reports that Jens Poulsen is developing Ikast Golf Klub into a luxury resort.
The municipality has found 15 instances where the development conflicts with nature legislation, the local plan and rural zone permits. Most of the works have already been carried out, according to DR.
Among the disputed points is protected section 3 nature that has been removed. That is one reason two councillors want a legal assessment of a possible police report, DR reports.
Vice mayor Kasper Pauli Petersen (S) said that breaking Danish law should carry consequences. He added that he will not judge guilt or punishment, and therefore considers a legal assessment necessary.
He is backed by Simon Vanggaard of Dansk Folkeparti, who described the case as possibly the largest scandal in the municipality’s history. Vanggaard chairs the Development and Business Committee, while Petersen chairs the Climate, Nature and Sustainability Committee.
Protected heath and a 350-meter road
Earlier reporting by DR, from August 27, 2026, stated that the administration found seven of the 15 conditions cannot be legalized through dispensation. Eight may potentially be approved or exempted.
Ekstra Bladet reported on September 3 that a road of roughly 350 meters was built through heath protected under section 3 of the Nature Protection Act. The terrain was reportedly altered by up to 12 meters, despite an earlier assessment that approval was unlikely.
A DR television segment on September 3 reported building, digging and landscape changes in ice-age terrain. The area is considered among the municipality’s most valuable nature, and the work was carried out without prior municipal permission.
The council must take a position on a long list of conditions at the golf club. The central question on the agenda is how many dispensations the municipality is willing to grant the developer.
Poulsen, who owns the course and is the client behind the project, will not comment before the council meeting. He has secured speaking time in the council’s question hour, as he does not believe the case is being presented correctly, DR reports.
Mayor Ib Lauritsen (V) said the council may need to examine whether the project has gone beyond acceptable limits. He also asked rhetorically whether the matter could be resolved without involving the police or others.
