More singles in Denmark are turning away from dating apps and looking for partners at in-person events. On Saturday, the company SingleNordic is holding a speeddating arrangement in Slagelse.
Growing numbers of singles are tired of the swipe culture on dating apps, DR reports. Instead, they are choosing to meet face to face at organized events. The broadcaster says the format is especially popular in the larger cities.
According to DR, more arrangements are now also appearing in smaller towns. On Saturday, SingleNordic is holding a speeddating event in Slagelse. There, men and women try their luck without screens, per DR’s reporting.
Organizer Tabita Schjøtt Zinck, who owns SingleNordic, says she clearly senses the interest in physical meetings, including outside the big cities. Per DR, she notes that participants are glad to meet people from their own area. She adds that traveling into a big city does not help if you live somewhere else.
Christian Høgh Pedersen from Næstved has taken part in several similar events. He tells DR that the best part has been meeting people instead of sitting with dating apps. He describes app dating as passive, since users have little influence over whether anything happens.
As reported by DR, Pedersen also points to the sense of community among those who show up. Sexologist and couples therapist Patricia Jiménez says the shift does not surprise her. In her work she meets singles daily who miss ordinary human closeness, according to DR.
Jiménez says people no longer want to be online and are tired of online closeness. She organizes her own offline events in Copenhagen. She tells DR that more cities are joining in, and that people increasingly want to attend physical events.
An established format in Slagelse
SingleNordic describes itself on its own website as a company that arranges live events for singles across Denmark. The company says it focuses on dating and community in cosy settings, with a professional approach.
The concept is not new to the town. Ticketing platform Billetto listed a 2025 SingleNordic event called Speeddating & Cocktails i Slagelse for ages 30 to 45. The listing placed it at Gammeltorv, where participants could meet up to 15 singles of the opposite sex.
Event listings site KultuNaut carries an August 2026 listing for SingleFest i Slagelse for singles aged 30 and over, also at Gammeltorv. SingleNordic is named as the organizer, and the listing describes an evening with games, dancing and socializing.
Beyond DR’s report, no other news coverage of Saturday’s speeddating event in Slagelse has been identified. The other available sources are event listings and general dating guides, including material on dating in Denmark.
