Erhvervsakademi København has introduced a mandatory four-week practical course for gymnasium graduates who begin one of five technical programs, aimed at preparing them for the hands-on level of the education.
The academy is running the new course, called a Praktikum, before regular teaching starts, DR reported on August 28, 2026. The stated purpose is to give students with a theoretical upper secondary exam a practical foundation before their program begins.
According to DR, the four-week course is compulsory, not optional. It targets students who arrive with a studentereksamen rather than a vocational background.
DR reports that the requirement applies to five programs: Energiteknolog, Automationsteknolog, Byggekoordinator, Produktionsteknolog and Kort- og landmålingstekniker. These are short-cycle technical programs covering energy technology, automation, construction coordination, production technology and surveying.
From theory to practice
The Praktikum is designed to move students from theory to practice, as described in DR’s report. The academy’s aim is to close the gap between a theoretical school background and the practical demands of a technical program.
DR links the initiative to concern about drop-out. The reporting frames the risk as arising when a student’s academic level and the level of the program do not match.
The timing of the launch is tied to the start of the academic year, per DR. The Praktikum is placed ahead of ordinary classes so that students complete it before normal teaching begins.
