Clever to Build More and Largest EV Stations in Denmark

Denmark’s largest electric vehicle charging provider, Clever, plans to open 11 new ultra-fast EV stations in Denmark by the end of 2026, with a flagship location in Haderslev set to become the largest of its kind in the nation.

Nationwide Expansion of EV Charging Infrastructure

As electric vehicle (EV) ownership accelerates in Denmark, infrastructure is being scaled rapidly to meet growing demand. By the end of 2026, Clever, the country’s largest EV charging operator, will open 11 new ultra-fast charging stations equipped with 208 high-speed chargers strategically placed along major highways and urban areas. The expansion includes a record-breaking project in the town of Haderslev in Southern Denmark, where a 50-charger hub will become the largest charging station in the country. This can mean shorter waiting times and easier access as the network of EV stations in Denmark grows.

This development reflects Denmark’s fast-growing EV sector. As of mid-2025, more than 452,000 electric cars are registered nationwide, and forecasts predict that number will rise to 1.6 million by 2030. Four out of every five private vehicle sales are now electric—placing increasing pressure on the nation’s charging network to keep pace. Denmark is moving quickly toward a greener future.

Haderslev to Host Denmark’s Largest Charging Station

The crown jewel of the expansion is the Haderslev Nord mega-station, which is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2026 with 50 ultra-fast charging points. The site is designed not just for functionality, but also to enhance user experience, combining striking architectural design with green zones for recreation and a dedicated onsite Clever Café offering barista-made coffee and food. This station is expected to become a landmark example of next-generation EV stations in Denmark.

In total, Clever’s plan encompasses the rollout of sites in urban centers and along key travel corridors, ensuring that infrastructure is evenly distributed for both local customers and long-distance travelers.

Strategic Investment in a Growing Industry

The announcement follows Clever’s continued aggressive investment in its network. The company, majority-owned by the energy and fiber provider Andel, is on track to install 6,400 new public charging points—including about 400 ultra-fast units—by the close of 2025. This momentum is backed by a 2025 revenue record of 1.5 billion Danish kroner, enabling further expansion.

In August 2025, Clever merged with fellow Andel-owned companies Andel Energi and Watts, streamlining operations and increasing the capacity to invest in green infrastructure. With this bolstered structure, Clever has committed to achieving 3,000 ultra-fast charging points by 2030, doubling current capacity within five years.

Enhancing Driver Experience

Clever’s expansion does not focus solely on capacity—it aims to reimagine the charging experience for drivers. This includes integrating amenities such as cafes and relaxing outdoor spaces to make charging stops more enjoyable and less routine. The approach sets Clever apart in the Danish market, where competition is intensifying as more companies enter the EV charging sector.

To complement its physical expansion, Clever has also formed partnerships with charging networks such as PowerGo, Stella, and IONITY. These agreements give Clever’s customers access to nearly 1,000 additional charging points nationally and thousands more across Europe—all under a unified payment structure with no hidden fees.

Moving from Ambition to Execution

Clever’s continued leadership in EV infrastructure supports Denmark’s broader vision of sustainable mobility and a fossil-free future. The 11 new ultra-fast stations are more than a technical investment—they are a step towards ensuring that every new EV owner across Denmark can rely on fast, accessible, and user-friendly charging wherever their journey takes them. With bold targets and a comprehensive rollout plan, Clever is positioning itself as a key player in achieving Denmark’s green transportation ambitions.
