Danish universities attract thousands of international students each year and for very good reason. The University of Copenhagen, founded in 1479, is Denmark’s oldest and largest university and consistently ranks in the world’s top 100 across multiple subject areas including health sciences, natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences.

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU), located just north of Copenhagen in Kongens Lyngby, is a global leader in engineering, physics, chemistry, and biotechnology, with strong research links to industry and an exceptionally international campus community. Aarhus University, the second largest in Denmark, is a comprehensive research university known for its business school, its medical faculty, and its beautiful main campus in the heart of Aarhus.

The Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is one of the largest business schools in Europe and maintains strong international rankings in management, economics, and business administration, attracting students from across the globe to its programmes. The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) has campuses in Odense, Esbjerg, Kolding, Slagelse, and Sønderborg, offering a wide range of programmes with a particularly strong reputation in pharmacy, natural sciences, and engineering.

Roskilde University and Aalborg University are known for their project-based learning models that emphasise collaborative, problem-solving approaches to education. All of Denmark’s publicly funded universities charge no tuition fees for EU and EEA students, and application is managed through the centralised Coordinated Enrolment (KOT) system for Danish students and directly to universities for international applicants.

Admission requirements vary by programme and institution but generally include recognised upper secondary qualifications, language proficiency documentation, and in some cases specific subject prerequisites. Choosing the right Danish university means aligning your academic ambitions, professional goals, preferred city, and personal learning style with an institution that genuinely fits, and there is no shortage of excellent options across Denmark.
