Former Folketing member Britt Bager turns 50 on August 16, 2026. She is back at work as an independent adviser after leaving her post as Moderaterne’s party secretary.
Bager, a former member of parliament for both Venstre and the Conservative People’s Party, marks the birthday on Sunday, Avisen Danmark reports in a profile distributed by Ritzau. She now runs the consultancy Bager Advisory and holds several board positions.
According to Avisen Danmark, Bager began the business quietly in March and is now working at full capacity. She had kept a low profile since December 2025, when she left her job as party secretary for Moderaterne.
She had taken up that role on March 1, 2025, following a turbulent period with a poor working environment in the party’s secretariat. Avisen Danmark notes that Bager helped restore calm in the secretariat before she was signed off sick.
Politiken reported in December 2025 that she stepped down after a hospital admission and a period of sick leave. Per Politiken, Jonas Juul Bisserup Bechfeldt was appointed acting party secretary until after the 2026 general election. CPH Post also reported that the decision followed doctors’ advice.
From Venstre to the Conservatives
Bager sat in the Folketing for Venstre from 2015 to 2021, serving for a period as the party’s political spokesperson. She left the party in March 2021, saying she missed the national conservative wing under then chair Jakob Ellemann-Jensen.
She then joined the Conservative People’s Party and remained an MP until the 2022 general election, where she was not re-elected. Politics is largely a closed chapter for her, and she now follows it from the sidelines, according to Avisen Danmark.
Her name still surfaces whenever Denmark’s party funding rules are debated. In 2015 she received 100,000 kroner from a single donor who remained anonymous, Avisen Danmark reports. The money was split into five transfers from five companies owned by the same person.
Because none of the transfers exceeded the disclosure threshold of 20,000 kroner at the time, the donor’s identity stayed secret. The method was widely criticized, although nothing illegal took place. DR described the maneuver in 2023 as a way of gaming the party support rules, and it became known as the “Britt Bager-finten.”
Bager told Avisen Danmark that she is fairly relaxed about the subject today. She has previously said, in an interview with Frihedsbrevet in 2022, that she consulted Venstre’s main organization about the rules beforehand.
Before entering politics, Bager worked as a flight attendant for SAS from 2000 to 2010. She is the mother of two boys, aged 5 and 11.
