Moderaterne has proposed abolishing Aula, the digital communication platform between Danish schools and parents, while coalition partner SF calls the idea too drastic.
According to DR, Social Affairs Minister Monika Rubin presented the proposal on September 16, 2026. She described Aula as a growth inside families that damages the relationship between parents and teachers.
Rubin stressed that the plan belongs to Moderaterne alone and is not a government proposal. Berlingske carried the original joint interview, in which Rubin appeared alongside fellow Moderaterne ministers Christina Egelund and Jakob Engel-Schmidt.
Per DR, Rubin said communication on the platform has gotten out of hand. She pointed to 10,000 messages a minute being sent on Aula between 7:30 and 9 a.m., and to teachers reporting stress over the system.
Rubin said the aim is to restore roles, giving teachers more authority in the classroom. Parents should make sure children are rested and ready to learn, and children should take on more responsibility, she said.
The party has no concrete replacement for Aula. Rubin said Moderaterne is open to input on what should follow, whether an app or another solution, and recalled the era of paper contact books and parent meetings.
Coalition partner and opposition reject abolition
SF education spokesperson Nanna Bonde told DR the approach is too drastic. She said the system can be regulated instead, for example by barring parents from sending messages outside normal working hours.
Radikale Venstre education spokesperson Philip Vivet also said no to scrapping the platform. He described Aula as an important tool for school-parent communication that needs to be used more sensibly.
In the opposition, Venstre education spokesperson Anni Matthiesen said abolition would be a very large step. She said she would rather improve Aula and introduce rules so families are not overloaded with information.
Tied to the PISA result
Rubin linked the proposal to the new PISA survey, which found that 15-year-olds are historically weak at reading and arithmetic. She said the findings require everyone to consider what could be done differently. Denmark’s record-low PISA results have driven a wider political debate about schooling.
TV 2 reported the same proposal and noted that the ministers framed Aula as part of a broader school-culture problem following the PISA result. The Copenhagen Post added that Aula was introduced in 2019 to replace Skoleintra.
DR notes that this is not the first time abolishing Aula has been discussed politically. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen raised the idea in her speech at the opening of the Folketing in 2023.
Bonde said a good platform is still needed for messages between schools and parents. Moderaterne has not said when it will bring the proposal to negotiations.
