Danish actress Andrea Vagn Jensen has died at the age of 61, her family announced on social media on September 12, 2026.
DR reports that the actress died on Saturday morning, and that the news was made public by her family. Her son, Harald Toksværd, wrote on Facebook that his mother had died that morning, and that he loved her very much.
In a post on Instagram, the family said she died at Bispebjerg Hospital in Copenhagen. She had been admitted there for a few days, surrounded by family and friends. The family also thanked staff at Department K3 and the intermediate care unit for their care and professionalism.
According to the family, Andrea Vagn Jensen’s final years were marked by illness. She leaves behind two sons. DR did not report further details about her condition.
Known from television and film
Andrea Vagn Jensen appeared in a long list of Danish films and television series. In the late 1990s she played the secretary Ulla Snedker in the TV series ‘Strisser på Samsø’. In the early 2000s she played a priest and the mother of Josefine in the Christmas calendar ‘Jesus og Josefine’, which aired on TV2.
She also hosted the DR children’s program ‘Nu er det nu’, broadcast in the children’s hour from 2000 to 2001. In the program she lived in a cluttered house on top of her own planet. She later played the researcher Hanne Schandorff in the first season of the DR drama series ‘Bedrag’.
Her film credits include ‘Store Planer’, ‘Kærestesorger’ and ‘Klassefesten’. In 1998 she received the Lauritzen Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in Danish theater.
Grew up abroad before training in Aarhus
From the age of three until she was 16, Andrea Vagn Jensen lived in several countries, including Iran, Pakistan, the Netherlands, Germany and Trinidad. Her father’s job as an engineer took the family around the world.
A couple of years after returning to Denmark, she auditioned for the Acting School in Aarhus and was admitted. As reported by Ritzau, cited by DR, she graduated in 1990 and was hired immediately at Aarhus Teater.
She later moved to Copenhagen and worked at the experimental theater Dr. Dante before becoming a freelancer. Alongside her experimental stage work, she was drawn to a career as a television actress.
