DR will close three of its podcasts, including the daily news podcast “Tiden”, from January 1, 2027.
The public broadcaster is shutting down “Tiden”, “Lyssky” and “Udsyn” at the turn of the year, DR reports. The news was first made public by “Tiden” host Adrian Busk in an Instagram post on Thursday, September 24.
“Tiden” publishes five episodes a week and covers three news stories in each episode. According to Podcastindex, the program has more than 300,000 weekly plays. It has run since 2022 and is hosted by Adrian Busk and Amalie Schroll Munk.
Anders Emil Møller, senior editorial chief at DR Nyheder, said the broadcaster needs to focus on development to reach its digital target. DR aims to be in contact with half of all Danes digitally every day, he explained in a written comment to Ritzau.
Per Møller, reaching that goal means DR has to dare to close programs down, even when they are performing well in isolation. He added that DR must constantly look at developing new formats and new content that can reach new users.
The three programs being closed
“Lyssky” is DR’s podcast about current criminal cases and has around 130,000 weekly plays, according to Podcastindex. “Udsyn” has about 43,000 weekly plays, the same source shows.
Busk wrote in his post that he loves his work and is therefore angry, upset and most of all very sad. He said he had been told that DR was pulling the plug on “Tiden” as of January 1.
Ekstra Bladet reports that Busk did not yet know what he would do after “Tiden” ends. The outlet has covered his reaction to the decision separately from DR’s own reporting.
Ekstra Bladet also reports that “Udsyn” host Kaspar Colling Nielsen confirmed his program would end at the close of the year. Nielsen is an author and has fronted the show for DR.
JydskeVestkysten carried the Ritzau report on the same day and named the same three podcasts. The closures come as DR continues to draw public and political attention, including debate over whether DR is politically biased.
Møller stated that DR does not make content that fails to create value for Danes. Trying new things, he said, can therefore have consequences even for good programs like the three podcasts.
DR has not published a full list of what will replace the three programs. The broadcaster’s stated focus is new formats and new content aimed at reaching new audiences.
