Fyns Politi is appealing for witnesses after two schoolgirls were approached by a man in a white car in Vissenbjerg on western Funen on September 21.
Two younger girls were approached shortly before 8 p.m. by a man driving a white car on Vestergade in Vissenbjerg. That is according to DR, which reported the case on September 22.
In a press release, Fyns Politi puts the time of the incident at about 7:45 p.m. The force states that the man used sexually offensive language toward the two girls.
According to police, the man did not take hold of the girls. His approach nevertheless made them feel unsafe. The girls rejected him and walked quickly home.
Police appeal for witnesses
Fyns Politi is looking for a man with tattoos on his left arm, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. He was driving a white passenger car. Anyone with information is asked to call 114.
As stated by the force, officers were with the girls shortly after the incident took place. They spoke with the girls and searched the area, including with police dogs.
Police say they view the case with great seriousness. No one had been arrested in connection with the incident when DR reported on September 22. For that reason, officers are now asking residents who noticed a white car near the scene between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to come forward.
School informed parents
The two girls attend Vissenbjerg Skole. Parents of pupils at the school were also informed about the case, according to DR.
The information was sent through Aula, the messaging platform used by Danish primary schools. In the message, head teacher Gitte Kondrup described what had happened. She praised the girls for doing exactly the right thing by rejecting the man.
Per the Aula message, Kondrup called the incident another occasion to talk with children about how to act if they are approached. She added that it is important for everyone to stay calm and to contact the police if something happens.
Vissenbjerg is a town on western Funen, in Assens Municipality, and falls under the jurisdiction of Fyns Politi. The force covers Funen and the surrounding islands.
Fyns Politi has not released further details about the man or the vehicle beyond the description in its press release. The force has not said whether the case is linked to any other reports in the area.
