DR has published the results of this summer’s 9th-grade final exams in Denmark, showing a national average of 7.3 in the mandatory exam subjects and 10.5 percent of students leaving without passing both Danish and mathematics.
The figures cover the students who completed 9th grade in the Danish folkeskole this summer. DR published the collected results on September 14, 2026, together with a searchable overview of individual schools.
According to DR, the national average in the bound exam subjects, the mandatory group of tests all pupils must sit, is 7.3. The broadcaster also reports that 10.5 percent of pupils finished 9th grade without passing both Danish and mathematics.
DR notes that there are large differences between schools across the country. The published overview allows parents to look up the results for their own children’s school.
In a separate article on the same release, DR labels the data as the 25/26 school year and repeats the 10.5 percent non-pass figure in a national framing. The underlying education data is compiled by the authorities through the official statistics portal Uddannelsesstatistik, run by Børne- og Undervisningsministeriet.
Published days after new PISA results
DR connects the release to last week’s PISA measurement. According to DR’s reporting, that study found 15-year-olds have never performed worse in reading and mathematics, and it also recorded more absence from school.
The PISA findings have triggered a broad debate about the Danish folkeskole, DR reports. The grades published now cover pupils who sat their exams before that debate began.
As reported by DR, the four party leaders in the government have since announced that they want a total ban on screens in schools. They also want to establish a school tripartite body, bringing together school leaders, teachers and other stakeholders.
Per DR, that body is intended to take part in restructuring the folkeskole. No timetable for the tripartite work or the screen ban was given in the reporting on the exam results.
The bound exam subjects in 9th grade include Danish and mathematics, alongside other mandatory tests. Passing both Danish and mathematics is central to pupils’ access to upper secondary education in Denmark.
