The board of Fælledby meets owners and tenants of 172 homes on Amager Fælled on Monday evening about compensation, after deciding two new apartment buildings must be demolished.
The meeting takes place in Fælledby from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., DR reports. It follows last week’s announcement that two buildings on Amager Fælled will be torn down because of serious construction defects.
According to DR, the compensation offers vary between homes. Two examples are 500,000 kroner and 750,000 kroner on top of the purchase price. The two apartments are almost identical and were bought within the same month.
DR states that the owners declined interviews ahead of the meeting. The broadcaster has seen both the purchase contract and the compensation offer in the example described. Owners and tenants are described as deeply dissatisfied with the offers.
Board stands by the valuations
Henrik Steenstrup, chairman of the Fælledby board, told DR that the compensation is based on independent valuations from two real estate agency firms. Per Steenstrup, the offers are not open to negotiation. He said the board was advised to use this method and has presented the result to owners and tenants.
The valuations were made for each individual home, based on the date of purchase and the general price increase in the area. Steenstrup acknowledged to DR that an element of estimation is involved in any valuation. He added that the agents worked to the best of their ability and experience, and that the board has to trust the outcome.
Asked what the meeting can achieve if the offers are fixed, Steenstrup said the board wants to face all owners and tenants in what he called a deeply tragic case. He said the purpose is to explain how the compensation figures were reached.
Demolition decision announced last week
The decision to demolish was made public on September 9, 2026, according to Politiken. The two buildings on Amager Fælled contain 172 newly built homes. Politiken reports that the buildings are only recently completed.
As reported by Politiken, the decision followed a technical review by the engineering firm Sweco. Fælledby said the review found the buildings to be total losses, with serious faults. The planned demolition of 172 homes is among the largest of its kind for new construction in Copenhagen.
The Fælledby board told DR it cannot yet say when the buildings will be pulled down. It also cannot say whether new homes will be built on the site. No timeline has been presented to owners and tenants.
