A truck struck the height-warning sign bridge just before Knippelsbro in central Copenhagen on Thursday morning, closing Christians Brygge for several hours. No one was injured, and the road has since reopened in both directions.
DR reports that all traffic on the road under Knippelsbro came to a halt during the morning rush. The truck hit the sign structure immediately before the bridge, bringing the marker down onto the carriageway.
Copenhagen Police received the report shortly after 07:30 on September 10, 2026. Duty officer Anette Ostenfeldt told Ritzau that the driver had struck the marking, which then fell down. According to the duty officer, the maximum permitted vehicle height at the site is 3.2 meters.
Ostenfeldt said the truck was not stuck and could drive away on its own once the sign had been removed. The cleanup required special roadside assistance, which is why drivers had to wait for the work to finish. The road under the bridge stayed closed for several hours.
Police later confirmed the reopening on Politi Update, stating that Christians Brygge had been cleared and was open for traffic in both directions.

Per Politiken, a crane was on site at around 10:00 to clear the carriageway. The newspaper reported that Christians Brygge reopened before 11:00. Police said the special assistance was needed because the sign structure was heavy.
A Ritzau notice from Copenhagen Police confirmed that the stretch was open again in both directions by late morning. No injuries were reported in connection with the crash.
Knippelsbro carries Torvegade over the harbor between Slotsholmen and Christianshavn. Christians Brygge runs beneath the bridge approach on the Slotsholmen side, where the sign bridge marks the clearance for taller vehicles.
