A majority in Gribskov Kommune’s planning committee voted on Monday to begin work on a new local plan that would secure the future of the Musik i Lejet festival at Vejby Camping.
The decision was taken on Monday, August 31, 2026, by the municipality’s Plan-, Miljø- og Klimaudvalg. As DR reports, the new plan is intended to give the festival a permanent base at Vejby Camping and secure its continued existence.
Six of the committee’s seven members backed starting the planning process, according to Ekstra Bladet. One member, Helle Lund of Liberal Alliance, voted against. The outlet described the outcome as the festival being rescued at the last moment.
The reason a new plan is needed is the site’s existing planning framework. Both DR and Ekstra Bladet report that the current rules do not allow large, recurring music events at Vejby Camping. A new local plan is therefore required for the festival to be legally accommodated there in the future.
Vejby Camping lies in Gribskov Kommune in North Zealand, the same coastal municipality that contains Tisvilde Hegn. Musik i Lejet is one of the area’s largest annual events. Monday’s vote concerned only the start of the planning work, not a final approval.
What happens next
The local plan is expected to be drafted by the municipal administration. According to Ekstra Bladet, the draft should be ready in November 2026, so that the committee can take a position on it before it moves further through the political system.
The plan is then to be sent to the Gribskov byråd, the city council, for final approval. Both DR and Ekstra Bladet report that this decision is expected in January. Until then, the festival’s long term status at the site remains unresolved.
The committee that made Monday’s decision is responsible for planning, environment, and climate matters in the municipality. Its vote sets the administrative process in motion but does not itself change the rules that apply at Vejby Camping.
Neither DR nor Ekstra Bladet reports any change to the festival’s arrangements for the coming season as a result of Monday’s vote. The reporting concerns the planning framework for the site and the festival’s ability to return there in future years.
Musik i Lejet has grown into one of Denmark’s better known summer music events, and the vote in Gribskov concerns where it can legally be held. The next formal step is the administration’s draft local plan, expected in November 2026.
