A man was stabbed several times in an allotment garden in western Odense on Saturday evening and was initially in life-threatening condition. Fyns Police have arrested a suspect, who was due before a judge on Sunday.
The attack took place in Roerskov Havekoloni in the Bolbro area of Odense. Avisen Danmark reports, based on wire copy from ritzau, that Fyns Police received an emergency call from the allotment area at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 22.
Officers were sent to the scene after reports that shots had been fired. Police later established that a blank-firing pistol had been used, not a weapon with live ammunition. According to the police information relayed by ritzau, the victim had been hit by numerous knife wounds on different parts of his body.
The man was taken to Odense University Hospital for treatment. Fyns Police stated on Sunday morning, via the Politi Update service, that he was no longer in life-threatening condition.
Suspect faces custody hearing in Svendborg
A suspected perpetrator has been arrested in connection with the attack. On Sunday afternoon, a judge at Retten i Svendborg was scheduled to decide whether there is legal basis to remand the man in pre-trial custody.
Police have so far released few details about the case. There is no public information about the victim’s identity, the suspect’s identity, or any possible motive. The account from Fyns Police covers only the location, the time of the alarm, the use of the blank-firing pistol, and the injuries.
Berlingske carried the same wire material in a short national news item. It repeated the location in Bolbro, the 6:15 p.m. alarm, the initial reports of shots, and the planned custody hearing in Svendborg. The outlet did not add further details beyond the wire text.
BT published a short crime piece focused on the update to the victim’s condition, noting that the man is now out of danger. That report also relies on the information from Fyns Police and adds no new material on identities or circumstances.
The reports from Avisen Danmark, Berlingske and BT are consistent on the key points. All three describe the same time, the same location, the same use of a blank-firing pistol, and the same improvement in the victim’s condition.
The incident follows other knife attacks in the city that have drawn national attention, including a stabbing outside an Odense Netto store. No source has linked the Bolbro case to any earlier incident.
The custody hearing at Retten i Svendborg will determine whether the arrested man remains in detention while the investigation continues. Fyns Police have not indicated when they expect to release further information about the case.
