Flextrafik driver on FaceTime call entire 20km trip

A Flextrafik passenger in southern Jutland says his driver held a FaceTime call with four other men throughout a ride on Thursday. Sydtrafik’s director calls the driver’s behavior clearly illegal.

Dennis Jørgensen got into the Flextrafik car outside Sommersted for a trip of almost 20 kilometers to Vojens. According to Avisen Danmark, the driver was already speaking in a foreign language with four other men on a FaceTime connection. Jørgensen says he told the driver he could finish the conversation.

The driver did not hang up, and Jørgensen says the call continued for the whole trip. He noticed that the car took a significant detour despite guidance from the GPS. After one and a half to two kilometers he asked whether they were picking up another passenger, and the driver then corrected course.

Jørgensen filmed the driver during the ride. He says he believes the driver was inattentive, and that he did not feel unsafe but found the conduct strange. As he put it to the newspaper, a person at work should be working.

Flextrafik handles patient transport, disability transport and municipally approved rides, along with the Flextur service open to all users. The driving itself is carried out by private operators on behalf of transport companies such as Sydtrafik. Sydtrafik states on its website that it administers Flextrafik in southern Jutland.

Through a freedom of information request, JydskeVestkysten obtained a newsletter that Sydtrafik sent to Flextrafik operators and drivers in October 2025. In it, the company wrote that it often receives reports from customers about private phone conversations during rides, and that this makes them feel unsafe. Sydtrafik stressed that only conversations related to the driving are permitted, and that they must be in Danish.

The contract with Flextrafik operators states that no private conversations may take place when customers are in the vehicle. Sydtrafik director Michael Aagaard describes the driver’s behavior on Jørgensen’s trip as clearly illegal, noting that looking at any kind of screen while driving is prohibited. He says the recording should be sent to the police, because it is a violation of the Danish traffic law.

Aagaard says complaints about a driver are taken up with both the driver and the operator, and typically lead to a formal reprimand. Where documentation points to a more serious matter, other sanctions can apply. Sydtrafik can ultimately demand that a driver no longer carries out Flextrafik work.

National attention on Flextrafik

Jørgensen has not filed a complaint with Sydtrafik over the trip. His recording emerges as the DR program Kontant examines Flextrafik nationally in the episode “Flextrafik på slingrekurs.” DR reports examples of drivers watching television while transporting passengers, and has also requested access to complaints filed with the transport companies. JydskeVestkysten described similar complaints about drivers using mobile phones in 2021.
