East Jutland Police have stepped up patrols in the Aarhus district of Tilst, where residents report growing insecurity after several knife attacks and a fatal traffic incident.
DR reports that police recognize a rising sense of insecurity among people living in Tilst, a district of about 11,000 inhabitants. Vice Police Inspector Mads Flansmose of East Jutland Police said the force intensified its presence and patrolling in the area at the start of 2026.
According to DR, a dedicated local police unit is now deployed in the district. It is present in Tilst to a greater degree than ordinary emergency response patrols, Flansmose said.
The district has seen several violent cases in recent months. In June 2026, a female resident was killed when a 20 year old motorist drove into a house in Skjoldhøjparken while being pursued by police. DR also reports another knife attack in July 2026, along with local accounts of open drug dealing at various locations.
Politiken reports that a 20 year old man has been charged in connection with the fatal crash. East Jutland Police and the prosecution service stated that the case was investigated intensively and that the investigation is still ongoing.
Flansmose told DR that police hear about the unease when they speak with cooperation partners and visit clubs and schools. He said officers also hear it from young people on the street, and that the force takes the development seriously.
Crime figures do not show a sharp rise
DR reports that nothing in police statistics shows crime has increased dramatically in Tilst. Flansmose therefore urged residents to call police as soon as they see anything suspicious.
More than 1,500 new rental apartments have been built in the district over the past five years, according to DR. That construction has increased the population of Tilst by more than 30 percent.
A citizen proposal published on 5 August 2026 on Aarhus Municipality‘s participation platform asks the city council to create a permanent safety hub at Tilst Library. It would serve as a base for visible, preventive patrols by municipal safety guards and neighborhood police during critical hours, aimed at unrest and drug dealing.
East Jutland Police’s cooperation and operations plan for 2026 states that the force will keep a special focus on particularly vulnerable housing areas. The plan lists visible, security creating patrols in the evening and night hours and strengthened cooperation with municipalities.
In coverage of a police operation against drug dealing on a parking lot in Tilst, ByenRanders reported that East Jutland Police will continue their efforts against the narcotics trade in the area and at similar locations. Tilst is one of several districts in Aarhus covered by the force.
