The older brother of a 16-year-old boy stabbed to death in Roskilde has backed police appeals to delete videos of the attack. He described his family’s shock in an interview published Sunday.
Ibrahim Hussein spoke to DR about his younger brother, who died after being stabbed several times in the chest on Friday. He said he still expects to see his brother again, and cannot believe he is gone.
The stabbing happened in Folkeparken in Roskilde, where young people had gathered for a party marking the start of the school year. According to DR, a boy of the same age stabbed the 16-year-old, and the suspect has been remanded in custody and charged with manslaughter.
Hussein told DR that the brothers were very close. They shared a bedroom while he still lived at home, wore the same clothes because they are the same height, and played PlayStation at their desk.
He was driving home from his parents’ house when calls from unknown numbers began coming in, he said. After several missed calls and the sound of emergency vehicles, he pulled over and answered a call from his brother’s friend, who said only that there was blood everywhere.
When he reached Folkeparken, he saw ambulance lights and a helicopter, according to DR. He tried to reach his brother, who was lying on the ground, but police held him back and told him not to come closer.
Police warn against sharing video
Videos of the stabbing began circulating on social media on Saturday, and police urged young people to stop forwarding the footage because distributing it is a criminal offense. Hussein said the appeal cannot be stressed enough, and that he hopes those who filmed the incident delete the video immediately.
Jyllands-Posten reports that several young people filmed the attack, and that police stress it is illegal to distribute such material. The outlet identifies the victim as a student at Himmelev Gymnasium, killed at a party for schools in the area.
Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi received the report at 17:33 near Louisevej by Folkeparken, according to Avisen.dk, citing Ritzau and the police. The boy was flown to Rigshospitalet, where his life could not be saved. Police are still looking for witnesses and ask them to call 114.
TV 2 reports that the accused 16-year-old denies the charges and was remanded in custody until September 10. Police have said their initial hypothesis is an internal dispute between the two boys that escalated. At the custody hearing, the judge stated that a clash between groups cannot be ruled out.
Local outlet Sjællandske Nyheder reports that police were present in large numbers in the area on Friday night, and that flowers have been laid at the scene.
