A 16-year-old boy was brought before a judge in Roskilde on Saturday, charged with the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old student from Himmelev Gymnasium.
DR reports that the custody hearing, known in Danish as a grundlovsforhør, was set for 12:00 at the Court in Roskilde on August 15, 2026. The stabbing took place on Friday evening close to a park where gymnasium students were holding a school-start party. The victim was stabbed several times and later died of his injuries.
According to DR, police received the emergency call at 17:33 on Friday. The incident occurred at Louisevej, near Folkeparken in Roskilde, and the boy was flown by helicopter to Rigshospitalet, where his life could not be saved. Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi arrested another 16-year-old boy and charged him in the case.
TV2 Kosmopol adds that police are treating the case as a homicide, and that the arrested teenager is charged with drab. As reported by Ekstra Bladet, the victim was a newly enrolled 1.g student at Himmelev Gymnasium. The school confirmed his death and said it is offering crisis counseling to students and staff.
Police point to a prior conflict
Per Ekstra Bladet, efterforskningsleder Michael Sehested of Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi said police believe the stabbing was linked to an earlier conflict between the two boys. According to the same reporting, the conflict flared up when they encountered each other at Folkeparken. Sehested declined to say how long the conflict had lasted, citing the ongoing investigation.
Sjællandske Nyheder describes the event as a so-called puttefest, a traditional party for new 1.g students. The outlet reports that officers were present both at the scene and at the gymnasium on Saturday. DR notes that police cordoned off the area, collected traces, and interviewed witnesses among the many young people present.
Coverage by Politiken initially described the boy as being in serious condition after the attack. The newspaper later updated its reporting to confirm that he had died from multiple stab wounds.
Justice Minister Nicolai Wammen commented publicly on the case, according to B.T. He called it terrible and deeply tragic that a 16-year-old has died after being stabbed, and extended his condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
Police have not released further details about the circumstances of the attack. The investigation by Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi is continuing, and the outcome of Saturday’s hearing was pending at the time of DR’s live coverage.
