A 16-year-old boy died after being stabbed near Folkeparken in Roskilde on Friday evening. Police have arrested another 16-year-old, who is due in court later today.
The stabbing followed an internal dispute between the two 16-year-olds that escalated, according to DR. Michael Sehested, deputy police inspector at Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi, told DR Nyheder that the confrontation escalated in Folkeparken.
The suspect was arrested the same evening and will be presented at a preliminary hearing, a grundlovsforhør, later on Saturday. Per Sehested, investigators found traces from the perpetrator at the scene and identified him quickly.
The incident happened during a so-called puttefest, a recurring gathering for new upper-secondary students in Folkeparken. Klaus Walmod, chairman of Natteravnene in Roskilde, told DR that his group was present as usual. He said the park quickly filled with police lights, and that a medical helicopter was called in.
TV 2 reports that the emergency call came in at about 5:33 p.m. on Friday, August 14. The stabbing took place on Louisevej, close to the park where the party was under way. TV 2 adds that the victim, initially described as being in serious condition, was flown from the scene by helicopter.
Politiken cites a police press release stating that the boy died of multiple stab wounds. The case is being investigated as a serious violent crime.
Ekstra Bladet reports that police described the case as an internal settling of scores between the two teenagers, one of whom drew a knife. Based on the preliminary investigation, officers do not believe the case is linked to organized criminal circles. Several outlets note that the exact background to the conflict has not been made public.
The victim was a student at Himmelev Gymnasium in Roskilde, the school confirmed to DR Nyheder. B.T. reports that he had recently started in 1.g, and that the school is offering psychological crisis counseling to students the day after the attack.
Police appeal for witnesses
Police say the investigation is well advanced, but they still want to hear from witnesses who were near the scene on Friday evening. As reported by DR, the appeal is directed in particular at young people who were in or around Folkeparken during the party.
Sjællandske Nyheder described police as massively present at Folkeparken and Louisevej during the evening. In a public notice issued through Ritzau, Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi asked people in the area to follow instructions from officers and respect the cordons.
