Three major events, Copenhagen Pride, Ironman Copenhagen and the Frederiksberg Criterium, are closing roads across Copenhagen and Frederiksberg this weekend of August 15 and 16, 2026.
DR reports that the three events are expected to draw large crowds and put pressure on traffic in the capital area. Katrine Barslund, traffic host at P4 Trafik, told the broadcaster that traffic will be heavier than normal on the roads that remain open.
According to DR, Copenhagen Pride affects traffic on Saturday, while Ironman Copenhagen and the Frederiksberg Criterium affect Sunday. Barslund recommended leaving the car at home and avoiding Inner Copenhagen, noting that several bus routes are rerouted on both days.
The Pride parade starts at Frederiksberg Rådhus at 13:00 on Saturday and moves down Allégade, Frederiksberg Allé and Vesterbrogade. It ends at Rådhuspladsen by Copenhagen City Hall, with roads closed as the parade passes, DR reports.
Frederiksberg Kommune states that Smallegade and Allégade are closed from 07:30 to 19:00 on Saturday. Frederiksberg Allé is closed from 12:00 and reopens once the parade has passed, according to the municipal traffic notice.
BT adds that the Copenhagen section of the route also closes Vesterbrogade from Værnedamsvej to Hammerichsgade, plus Hammerichsgade, Studiestræde and Vester Voldgade. The outlet expects the parade to finish at Rådhuspladsen around 16:00 and estimates attendance in the hundreds of thousands.
On Sunday, Ironman Copenhagen begins with a 3.8 kilometer swim at Amager Strandpark, followed by a 180 kilometer bike leg and a 42.2 kilometer run. DR reports that Amager Strandvej and other roads on Amager will be affected as participants ride toward Inner Copenhagen and north along Strandvejen.
Closures on Sunday also reach the northern suburbs. Lyngby-Taarbæk Kommune states that Strandvejen at Taarbæk is closed to cars between Dyrehavevej and Taarbæk Strandvej from 08:00 to 17:30, with preparations from around 07:00.
The Frederiksberg Criterium runs on a 4.2 kilometer circuit with start and finish on Frederiksberg Allé, looping around Frederiksberg Have, per DR. Frederiksberg Kommune specifies that the route repeatedly uses Smallegade, Gammel Kongevej, Madvigs Allé, Pile Allé, Roskildevej and Søndre Fasanvej, all closed during the race.
Presse-fotos.dk reports that about 3,100 athletes are expected in Ironman Copenhagen this year. The site also notes that the Frederiksberg race runs from 13:00 to 19:00 on Sunday, and that some roads on the Ironman bike route allow regulated crossings.
The disruption is concentrated because Pride’s main parade day falls on Saturday, August 15, while both the Ironman race and the criterium are scheduled for Sunday, August 16, according to DR and Frederiksberg Kommune.
