Danish Salt Inhalers Aid Ukraine’s Frontline Troops

A Danish company is helping Ukrainian soldiers fight infections at the front lines by donating salt inhalers made with salt from Mariager. The goal is to keep troops healthy and increase their endurance during the ongoing war against Russia.

Danish Health Firm Sends Aid to Ukraine’s Frontline

A small Danish health company has found an unusual way to support Ukraine’s war effort. Instead of sending ammunition or vehicles, it is sending salt. More specifically, the company Liita Care has donated salt inhalers to the 3rd Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian army.

The inhalers are designed to strengthen soldiers’ immune systems and reduce common respiratory infections such as colds and flu. Ukraine’s soldiers have battled these illnesses throughout the long and grueling conflict with Russia. The firm hopes its contribution can reduce how often soldiers fall ill and make recovery faster when they do.

The donated products use ultrafine particles of Danish salt from the town of Mariager. Soldiers inhale these particles through a small device about the size of a credit card. According to Liita Care, the salt particles help slow down the growth of infections in the body and can reduce coughing or throat irritation. The product is already sold in Danish pharmacies and several other countries to help prevent respiratory issues.

Health Benefits and Potential Impact

Military health specialists agree that ordinary infections can seriously affect combat performance. Studies have even shown that illness and non-combat injuries can remove almost as many soldiers from the battlefield as direct enemy attacks. With harsh conditions, lack of rest, and poor sanitation, disease often hits just as hard as weapon fire.

Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines often struggle with a combination of exhaustion and exposure to cold, wet weather. These factors weaken the immune system, making viral infections and bacteria spread quickly through units. The situation is complicated by limited access to vaccines and medical supplies.

For Liita Care, the health and energy of the troops are essential to maintaining morale and effectiveness. The company’s management believes even small health improvements can make a big difference. Healthy soldiers can stay on duty longer and recover faster, freeing up manpower for other critical operations.

Part of a Wider Danish Support Effort

This latest effort joins a wave of Danish civilian and government initiatives supporting Ukraine. Denmark has contributed military, economic, and humanitarian assistance on multiple fronts, including a new multi-billion aid package.

Liita Care hopes this smaller-scale medical donation could become a model for broader health-focused support. The company says if the first 500 soldiers using the inhalers report positive results, it could pave the way for a much larger distribution across Ukraine’s armed forces.

The firm believes that widespread use of these simple salt inhalers could save thousands of “soldier days” each year. In practice, that might equal the operational strength of an extra brigade. By keeping soldiers healthier, the initiative could increase the number of troops available for active duty without any new recruitment or equipment.

Mixed Views From Medical Experts

Some medical specialists are more cautious about the claims. Danish military doctors acknowledge that salt therapy can soothe breathing and may help patients feel better, but scientifically, its effects remain limited. It is not proven to fight severe infections such as diphtheria or pneumonia, though it is considered safe and may offer local relief.

Even if the health benefits are partly psychological, military experts argue that any safe treatment giving soldiers comfort or confidence can be valuable in war. In extreme conditions, the difference between functioning and failing can be small.

Despite this positive view, the product has not yet been included in Denmark’s official military aid. Liita Care has applied through the national defense procurement agency several times but has so far been turned down. Still, the company says the current donation will serve as a test case for potential inclusion in future support programs.

Health, Innovation, and Solidarity

Denmark’s contribution to Ukraine continues to go beyond traditional aid. Whether through government funding, private innovation, or humanitarian projects, the country has found unique ways to provide help. Supporting Ukrainian soldiers’ health with Danish salt from Mariager symbolizes this broader spirit of creativity and care.

As the war persists, maintaining physical strength and morale grows ever more important. Even something as small as salt might play a role in giving Ukraine’s troops the endurance they need to keep fighting.
