Norlys Launches Screen Time App for Healthier Habits

Norlys partners with Digitalt Ansvar to combat unhealthy screen habits by launching the “Screen Time” app, designed to help users regain control over their mobile usage.

New App Aims to Tackle Excessive Screen Time

On June 19, 2025, Norlys, a leading telecommunications company in Denmark, joined forces with the organization Digitalt Ansvar to address the pervasive issue of unhealthy screen habits among Danes. Together, they are launching a new app called “Screen Time,” which aims to equip users with the tools necessary to manage their mobile phone usage more effectively. Recent studies reveal that Danes spend an average of 8.6 years of their lives glued to their smartphone screens, prompting a growing desire for practical solutions that enable users to regain control over their screen time.

The Screen Time app offers a comprehensive analysis of users’ smartphone habits, detailing the amount of time spent on different applications and identifying peak usage periods. This feature allows users to determine their screen usage patterns and make informed decisions about their mobile interactions. For instance, users can lock specific apps during selected times of the day, such as when they are with family or friends, encouraging more engagement in real-life interactions. Additionally, the app allows users to set geographical restrictions, activating app locks automatically in various locations, including homes, holiday houses, or even children’s institutions.

A Societal Challenge

Unhealthy screen habits have become a significant societal challenge that requires collective action. Eva Lundgren, the Brand and Marketing Director at Norlys, emphasized the telecommunications company’s responsibility and the opportunity to make a difference. “It’s not about turning off screens entirely but making it easier to be present. That’s exactly what Screen Time is designed to do,” she stated. This initiative highlights the increasing necessity for tools that facilitate healthier screen habits.

The pervasive nature of digital applications—ranging from news platforms to social media and gaming—makes it challenging for individuals to detach themselves from their devices. These platforms are strategically designed to capture and retain user attention, making it difficult to regain focus on other important aspects of life. While Denmark awaits improved national and European regulations to limit the influence of social media companies on user habits, individuals and organizations like Norlys are taking proactive measures to provide solutions.

Ask Hesby Holm, the Director of Digitalt Ansvar, expressed the urgency of the matter, “The EU is working on regulating tech companies that are experts at keeping us engaged in front of screens. However, this process takes time, and in the meantime, we want to assist Danish families in limiting their screen time.”

Looking Forward

As Norlys and Digitalt Ansvar continue their collaboration, the future of screen time management in Denmark looks promising. The launch of the Screen Time app represents a significant step towards fostering healthier relationships with technology. Both organizations are dedicated to providing resources and strategies to help individuals and families navigate the complexities of digital environments shaped by addictive design.

With ongoing efforts to address the challenges of screen addiction, Norlys and Digitalt Ansvar aim to create a society where mobile and digital interactions can be enjoyed without compromising meaningful connections with people and the world around us. As societal norms around technology continue to evolve, initiatives like these play a crucial role in balancing the benefits of digital connectivity with the importance of real-world engagement.
