Influencer’s 0K Sneaker Collection Stolen After Break-In

A Danish influencer lost a sneaker collection worth about two million kroner after a break-in at a storage facility in Aarhus. The theft has sparked questions about security and insurance responsibilities at Boxit’s self-storage units.

Priceless sneaker collection stolen

While traveling in Dubai, Danish influencer Sally Javadi received a shocking call from her mother. The storage unit that held her prized sneaker collection in Aarhus Nord had been emptied. Javadi, who runs the Instagram profile “Sallys Sneakers” with 350,000 followers, discovered that the roughly 250 to 300 pairs of shoes—worth an estimated two million kroner—had vanished.

The rare sneakers were more than just a hobby; they were her main source of income. For years, she built her business by showcasing unique footwear, collaborating with brands, and engaging with an international sneaker community.

Break-ins reported across several cities

The theft from Javadi’s unit is part of a string of break-ins at Boxit storage facilities in Aarhus Nord and Risskov. Similar incidents have been recorded in Odense. In one case, Boxit staff caught three men attempting to break in at the Odense site. Police arrested and later convicted them of attempted burglary on November 4.

According to Boxit’s spokesperson, the same individuals may have been involved in multiple locations. Surveillance footage reportedly showed their faces clearly, and the company said authorities believe there’s a connection between the cases in Aarhus and Odense. East Jutland Police confirmed their investigation is ongoing but did not confirm whether the cases are linked.

Boxit responded by tightening security, adding enhanced video surveillance and stepping up monitoring during hours when customers access their units. The company described the situation as deeply regrettable and said it’s now assessing technical solutions to further improve safety.

Insurance and responsibility

Javadi reported the theft to police immediately, but she soon realized her sneakers were uninsured. Storage companies like Boxit do not cover clients’ belongings. Instead, customers are expected to handle insurance independently, either through their own home insurance or by purchasing an additional policy offered through the company’s partner insurer.

Because of that, Boxit’s spokesperson emphasized that renters are reminded in writing to verify coverage under their personal policy when signing rental agreements. Many renters overlook this step until something goes wrong. In Denmark, it’s a common assumption that storage providers carry some form of liability—yet Boxit made clear that its contracts specify otherwise.

Javadi admitted she should have checked her policy beforehand. Now she faces the loss of not only money but also years of dedication to a niche career built around fashion and social media creativity.

Community support and hope for recovery

In a bid to recover her stolen sneakers, Javadi posted an appeal to her followers on Instagram. She offered a reward of 100,000 kroner for any tip that could lead to the missing shoes. Her post quickly went viral across international sneaker forums, and collectors began circulating lists of her unique pairs to help identify them on resale platforms.

She has also begun compiling a detailed list of every stolen pair to assist the police investigation. Many in Denmark’s sneaker community have expressed sympathy, noting that collections like hers often represent years of effort and financial investment rather than luxury excess.

Despite losing her life’s work, Javadi’s online following remains strong, and her story has drawn attention to broader issues of property security and insurance awareness. It serves as a reminder that even personal treasures kept safely locked away can disappear without proper coverage.

Security concerns in self-storage

While Boxit has operated for over two decades without major breaches, the recent series of incidents marked a turning point. The company now faces mounting pressure to restore public confidence. Officials called the burglary the work of a professional, organized group that found a new way to bypass existing safeguards.

No arrests have been made in Aarhus yet, but the company maintains close cooperation with the police and urges customers to take additional precautions. In theory, even national institutions with stronger systems have suffered similar vulnerabilities.

For those storing valuable items in Denmark, experts recommend confirming with insurers whether offsite belongings are covered. Extra protection offers peace of mind, especially when storing collections linked to a career or livelihood.

Javadi’s experience is a painful example of how unforeseen theft can wipe out years of work. Until authorities close the case, she will rely on her passionate fanbase to keep watch for any sign of her distinctive shoes appearing online.
