A new Danish festival called “Festegnen” will debut in summer 2026 in the suburb of Rødovre, just outside Copenhagen, aiming to bring high-energy performances to 30,000 attendees over two days.
Rødovre to Host Major New Music Festival in 2026
A new large-scale Danish festival is set to arrive in the greater Copenhagen area next summer. Dubbed “Festegnen,” the event will take place in Rødovre over two days, June 19–20, 2026, transforming the traditionally low-key western district of Copenhagen, known as Vestegnen, into a high-energy celebration focused on party music. The festival will bring new energy to Vestegnen.
Planned for the green park area of Espelunden, the festival will feature four stages and accommodate up to 30,000 attendees. The event aims to differentiate itself by offering pure party vibes rather than long musical interludes or slow ballads. Organizers are emphasizing music that gets guests dancing from start to finish. Four stages of music will keep visitors dancing.
Lineup Highlights Include International and Danish Favorites
The initial artist lineup includes a mix of internationally beloved and homegrown talent. Among the headliners are German techno-pop group Scooter, who rose to global fame in the early 2000s with pulsing beats and stadium-filling energy. Joining them on stage will be Birthe Kjær, a Danish pop icon with decades of hits, and Outlandish, the multicultural hip-hop group originating from the local suburb of Brøndby Strand.
The carefully curated lineup reflects the organizers’ ambition to craft a vivid mix of energy and familiarity, spanning across generations. More artists are expected to be announced as the event date approaches.
Organized by Experienced Danish Festival Creators
Although Festegnen will be a debut event in 2026, the team behind it brings years of festival experience to the table. The organizing company also runs the popular Danish festival concept “Vi Elsker” (We Love), which has celebrated 1990s and 2000s music in cities across Denmark since 2011. With single-day parties that regularly sell out in places like Aarhus, Odense, and Aalborg, the brand has developed a devoted fanbase.
This new venture marks the first time the team will step into a full weekend festival format. Their goal is to anchor the festival in Vestegnen, an area that has supported their events in the past and holds personal meaning for several team members—many of whom grew up in the region.
Shifting Focus From National Tour to Local Festival
With the launch of Festegnen, the creators are adjusting their summer strategy. In 2025, “Vi Elsker” festivals were staged in cities including Vejle, Odense, and Aalborg. However, for 2026, those summer events will be put on pause. Instead, the group is focusing entirely on bringing Festegnen to life as their flagship summer event.
That doesn’t mean “Vi Elsker” is going away entirely. Plans are underway to convert the concept into a winter tour for 2026–2027, offering indoor experiences in cities around Denmark where summer stops are being paused. This shift will allow the team to concentrate their summer energy on developing Festegnen into what they hope will be a long-standing tradition.
Tickets Go on Sale Fall 2025
The public won’t have to wait long to secure their spot. Tickets for the 2026 edition of Festegnen go on sale starting September 30, 2025. Early interest is expected to be high, given the festival’s strong production team and the popularity of the featured artists. Local authorities are also backing the initiative, signaling strong support for bringing more cultural events to the western Copenhagen suburbs.
Festegnen positions itself not just as another name in Denmark’s crowded festival calendar, which already features events like Roskilde, NorthSide, and Smukfest, but as a celebration anchored in community identity. With its roots in Vestegnen and its commitment to high-spirited fun, Festegnen is shaping up to become an exciting new entry in the country’s music scene.
